Today's young people don't know a world without online social interaction. With 81% of Internet-using teenagers in America using social media sites and apps, the current communication norm brings with it pitfalls and even dangers. This edition of Inside Education looks at how social media pervades our culture, creating issues and problems for our young people, especially middle school students. Guests share experiences and offer tips for positive use of social media and help for parents trying to navigate this online world.

7th grader Jacob Beall and his mother Kristi Beall, library media specialist at Bull Run Middle School join Kavits to share their experiences with social media and later in the program, Lisa Xantus, Director of School Counseling at Graham Park Middle School and Dr. Tori Stone, Professional School Counselor at Bull Run Middle offer their insights and provide suggestions for dealing with the issues social media use brings. Throughout the program, you will hear from students and parents about how social media effects their lives.
